I read this yesterday in UCB's word for Today and thought of you....
" . . . I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received." Ephesians 4:1
In preparation.
When God calls you to do something, He prepares you for it in advance. This 'preparation period' can be the most difficult time of your life. For the next few days, let's look at how God prepared Moses, then maybe you'll understand that there's a work of preparation going on in your life, too. First, God will give you an emotional investment in the work He's called you to do. How ironic it is that Pharaoh ordered the death of every Hebrew baby boy, yet he didn't realize he was raising one in his own palace - one who would ultimately liberate the Children of Israel and bring down his whole kingdom. God thinks of everything! Don't doubt Him. Don't dictate terms to Him. Don't debate what He tells you. Just trust Him and get on with it! The Israelites were not some unknown group; they were Moses' own people. For 40 years their cries echoed in his ears and reached his heart. Now he had come to the point of being willing to lay down his life for them. That's what it takes to be used by God!
John Knox, the great Scottish reformer, cried, "God, give me Scotland or let me die!" Paul cried, "My heart is filled with bitter sorrow and unending grief for my people . . . I would be willing to be forever cursed - cut off from Christ! - if that would save them." (Rom 9:2,3) Consider carefully the dying words of Bill Borden, missionary to China, who wrote, "No reserve, no retreat, no regrets!" That's what's known as an emotional investment.
I thought it was pretty apt for what we talked about on Sunday. Hope to see you tonight - if not, then Friday. Take Care love LittleFish xx
